‘From Sussex Downs to London Town’

Many thanks to everyone who visited or contributed in any way to the recent ‘From Sussex Downs to London Town’ exhibition and sale of works by gifted local artist Moira Hoddell at Glynde Place.

At Moira’s generous request, all proceeds of the sale are going to the Hamsey Church Restoration Fund, a cause very close to the artist’s heart, and we are delighted to report that the pictures sold at Glynde during exhibition week realised just over £8,000, while sales of pictures before and after the show have raised almost £4,000; making a magnificent total of just over £12,000 for much-needed Hamsey church funds.

We were thrilled that Moira was able to join us for an hour or so on the Thursday, when she walked around the gallery recalling in some detail exactly where, when, and how she had created many of her works – and very obviously enjoying the show.

Moira reviews the exhibition

We felt very privileged to meet Moira and it is especially gratifying to note that, because of her amazing generosity, her many accomplished paintings and drawings – many of which could have sold several times over – have found an appreciative new audience and will now grace the walls of many a new home.

An extra special ‘Thank You’ goes to Friend of Hamsey Alice Renton who had the vision and determination to organise the event and another to Michael Bell, who so generously gave his time, many skills and the great benefit of his knowledge and experience. Our thanks also go to the team at lovely Glynde Place for their hospitality and kind assistance.
